Since 2008, our active Quality Deer Management program has enhanced habitat and food sources, producing exceptional bucks for our hunters. Spanning over 6,500 acres of private land - featuring forests, meadows, lakes, and marshes. Wilderness Ranch is surrounded by vast wilderness, including the Huron National Forest.
All deer and bird hunters must lodge on-site. Many hunting groups have been coming for decades, fostering lasting friendships. Our hunting coordinator, Tom Proctor, will help place you in a group that suits you.
For firearm hunting, strategically placed permanent blinds ensure prime whitetail opportunities. As a private property, we limit hunter numbers for a safer, more enjoyable experience. Each lodge has designated hunting stands to prevent overlap and ensure a quality hunt. Stationary hunting is required for large game.
When available, staff can assist with tracking, retrieval, and field dressing. Deer can be processed at local meat processors, and successful hunters can earn a Michigan DNR patch.
Hunting dogs are only permitted for bird hunting during designated seasons. Bird hunting is by special permission, please contact us for details.

Our Deer Committee, made up of longtime hunting guests elected by their groups, sets parameters for our QDM. Each November, they meet with family and management to review deer surveys, hunting results, and factors like winter conditions, birth rates, disease, acorn harvest, and predation to determine doe availability for the upcoming season.
Game bird hunting on our property is limited and managed by a small, self-regulating group of hunters who coordinate to protect the ecosystem as bird populations fluctuate. Local wildlife includes grouse, woodcock, dove, Canada goose, and wild duck.
